Life in the house

Amenities

Nothing you must do; plenty you may. The house keeps its own unhurried timetable — join in wherever you like.

The breakfast salon: marble café tables and bentwood chairs at tall windows over the canal

07:30 — 12:00

The breakfast salon

Sourdough from the baker two bridges over, eggs any way, stroopwafels warmed on the pan, and proper coffee poured until noon. No buffet, no rush — breakfast arrives at your table, ideally the one in the window.

Included with every room, every day of your stay.

The reading salon: leather club chairs by the marble fireplace, bookshelves and low brass lamplight

Always open

The reading salon & honesty bar

A fireplace, a wall of Dutch and English paperbacks, two decanters and a ledger. Pour what you like, note it down, settle at checkout. On winter evenings the fire is lit at five; in summer the windows stay open past midnight.

Honed marble washstand with unlacquered brass taps and amber apothecary bottles

In every room

Marble, brass and very hot water

Bathrooms in honed marble with unlacquered brass that ages as it pleases. Apothecary soaps mixed for us in Haarlem, cotton robes heavy enough to cancel plans in, and water pressure the plumber calls his life's work.

A linen-dressed bed beside a tall canal-house window, brass sconce glowing above the oak sill

Sleep

Beds worth the missed museum slot

Washed linen, wool blankets from Texel, blackout shutters older than most countries, and a pillow menu we keep mercifully short. Turndown comes with a small chocolate and tomorrow's weather on a card.

And the rest

Also in the house

Bicycles

Black Dutch bikes with wicker baskets, free for guests. Maps and a lock code at the desk.

Courtyard garden

Hydrangeas, a fig tree that surprises everyone, and two bistro tables in the afternoon sun.

Concierge, on paper

Your weekend drawn on a paper map — walks, brown cafés, market hours, museum timing.

Luggage & late flights

Arrive early or leave late; we keep your bags and lend you a bicycle in between.

Dogs

Stay free, greeted by name, spoiled at breakfast. A bowl and blanket wait in your room.

The quiet promise

No conference room, no piped music, no television in the salon. That's the amenity.
